GETTING IT DONE FOR OVER 50 YEARS

Architecture is more than just a set of drawings and specifications, it is a process that requires experienced leadership, vision, and superior communication. RMA delivers experienced leadership focused on action and a successful track record for getting it done.

WHO WE ARE

Richard S. Matsunaga, AIA, founded Richard Matsunaga and Associates in 1964. From humble beginnings the firm grew and expanded to provide architectural design services throughout Hawaii and the Pacific Rim. On the firm’s 50th anniversary, we focused on the next 50 and renamed our firm RMA Architects Inc.

RMA is a team comprised of accomplished professionals skilled in architecture, planning, interior design and construction administration. Spanning over five decades, our team collectively shares a wealth of knowledge and experience. RMA has a vast range of experience designing small renovations to large campuses for our Commercial and Federal/State Government clientele. Keeping up with a fast-moving economy and construction industry, RMA embraces change and challenges our team to continuously look for creative solutions to provide the best value for our clients.

OUR OFFICE CULTURE

We are focused to go the extra mile for our clients but we also encourage our team to build an enriching office culture. Design is enhanced by diverse life experiences and we work hard at having fun and building our own internal relationships. Through birthday celebrations, themed parties, movie nights and community outreach activities like AHA Heart Walk, we strive to provide a fun and supportive place to design and create. We empower our staff to create committees that address issues that they feel are important to developing a culture of empowerment and self-responsibility.

WHAT WE PRACTICE

  • Collaboration

We believe in creating meaningful relationships with the people we work with. Forming a fluid connection between our clients, consultants and staff helps us produce thoughtful designs while minimizing conflicts.

  • Resiliency

Protecting the future of the islands we have been serving for over half a century is important to us. We are proponents of sustainable solutions that produce healthy environments and communities.

  • Appreciation

Giving back to the communities we serve is important to us. We are enthusiastic supporters of participating in service events such as the American Heart Association’s Heart Walk, Special Olympics Summer Games, Habitat for Humanity Builds, and United Way Fundraising to name a few.
