After taking mechanical drafting and design during his time at Pearl City High School, Kylan wanted to pursue Architecture – he loved that it was a balance of the arts and sciences. While attending the University of Hawaii at Manoa, School of Architecture, he started his professional journey by interning at RMA. Because of his love of Japanese culture, he took an opportunity to spend half a year abroad, interning at a Tokyo architectural firm, enjoying metropolitan life and delicious food. After graduating, he returned to RMA and continued to help design and manage government and commercial projects, including one of the first radio frequency anechoic chambers in Hawaii. Kylan is also a technical leader in RMA’s Revit Committee and enjoys mentoring staff on the benefits of Building Information Modeling and Management. Outside of the office, he enjoys dancing and continues to train in the Bujinkan – a system of ancient Japanese martial arts. Coming full circle, he also volunteers as an advisor to his High School Alma Mater’s Academy of Technology & Design Architectural Program; he helps with its direction, provides presentations on an Architect’s career path (education, experience, licensing and daily work life), and mentors students on their capstone projects.
