2024 CANstruction

“Game Over for Hunger” was this years theme for the 19th Annual AIA Honolulu CANstruction Competition. With much excitement for this years theme we decided to build an Arcade Machine featuring Pokemon!

Hawaii, I choose you!  Join us as we press start to battle the game’s final boss, Hunger! As we train in the Hawaii Foodbank Gym, we zap, chop, and bite food insecurity one pixel at a time.

Imagine a world where Hunger is a thing of the past and our friends, families, and neighbors never have to worry where their next meal is coming from.  Together, we will stop Team Rocket from hoarding Pokémon and food that could be feeding our keiki and kupuna.  Food insecurity affects our whole community so let’s use our coins and berries wisely to strengthen our team and battle our way to the top of the league.

We’re playing for points and a purpose so grab your backpack and don’t forget your Pokédex as we Gotta Feed ‘em All!

With all the effort of our volunteers, supporters, and fearless co-captains (Nick & Ethan) we are elated to announce that our build was the recipient of “Best Use of Labels”, “Most Cans” and “The People’s Choice Award”! Thank you to all who were involved with making our CANstruction come to life, and thank you to all who kindly donated to the Hawaii Food Bank to vote for our structure.
